Article Image Alt Text

The always challenging Hastings St. Cecilia Hawkettes proved to be too much to handle during the opening round of the C2-9 Sub-District tournament held Monday, Oct. 31, at Adams Central. The Hawkettes recorded a 25-15, 28-26, 25-19 season ending loss to the Sandy Creek volleyball team. Sandy Creek totaled 35 kills in the match, but it proved to not be enough in the end, as Sandy Creek ended the 2016 with an 18-12 record.

Cardinals bound for Cody

Article Image Alt Text

It’s been a long time coming for the Harvard Cardinal football program to earn a playoff win, but on Friday, Oct. 28, nearly 13 years after their last playoff win, a 56-20 win over Diller-Odell in Class D-1 in 2003, the Cardinals provided their fans with a big showing, downing the Blue Knights of South Platte High School in Big Springs with a 52-40 win in the opening round of the 2016 Six-Man Coaches Association state playoffs. The win advances the Cardinals to the semifinal round against the Cowboys of Cody-Kilgore High School, in Cody.

An exciting night, high spirits at Harvard

By Ashley Swanson

One of my favorite part about Harvard is their spirit. No matter what activity is going on, no matter what the score of a game is, the spirit level is at maximum. Harvard’s football season, thus far, has been exciting, for the athletes, coaches, crowd and certainly those from the CCN who cover them, and at every game, that well known spirit is never lacking.

Harvard football...The road to Cody

By Tory Duncan

Cody, NE, according to the 2010 census, has a population of 154. It’s nestled in the northern sandhills of Nebraska, some 45-50 miles west of Valentine in Cherry County, just a hop, skip and jump south of the Nebraska-South Dakota border. Cody is the next stop on the magical ride that is Harvard football this season. This past Friday night’s playoff win over South Platte marked the first time since Oct. 30, 2003, that the Cardinals’ program has won a playoff game. On that date in 2003, Harvard rolled past Diller-Odell 56-20, before bowing out of the Class D-1 eight-man playoffs to Falls City Sacred Heart on Nov. 5, 2003.

Loads of Fun...

During the Sutton Community Church’s annual event and gathering, two bounce houses were set up for the enjoyment of not only kids, but some adults, too. Games, such as dodgeball and volleyball were also set up for everyone’s amusement. In between games and switching from bounce house to bounce house, a large meal was served, with corn on the cob, hamburgers, hot dogs, casseroles and an abundance of desserts on the menu.
