Procedures For Panic Button Discussed Heavily at County Board

Within each department of the Clay County Courthouse, there is a panic button which can be used in cases when a customer becomes violent or potentially violent, or in more serious cases, such as a shooting or similar incidents. Department heads met with board members and County Sheriff Jeff Franklin to discuss the effectiveness of the panic button and possible future procedures. This discussion came about after the button had been used last week by the treasurer’s office after a customer had become angry. Franklin reported that the button was pushed at 9:02 a.m., with an officer arriving at the courthouse at 9:11 a.m. The closest officers had been in Edgar and Sutton, with the officer from Edgar making it to Clay Center first.

Construction Nears Completion at Sutton Clinic

Article Image Alt Text
A sea of saw dust footprints, stacked boxes, and miscellaneous tools litter the ground. Through the front entrance, an area completely enclosed by glass walls, a half-finished receptionist desk waits. Around the corner, construction crews are busy piecing the waiting room together. No comfy chairs or carpeted floors can be found, but the makings of the room lay strewn about the floor. Off in the distance, a buzz saw echoes through the blank halls. Empty, half-finished cupboards and desks are found pushed against walls in more saw dust covered rooms.

A Fluffy Sports Feature

by Ashley Swanson

When it comes to writing about sports I.....well, I don’t write about sports. I could probably learn and I really should, but I’m a news person. Anyway, despite my lack of knowledge on how to write sports, I am OK at writing features. So, without further adieu, here is a sports feature that contains hardly any information about the actual sport. Last Friday night wasn’t very chilly. For late September, it was actually quite nice; however, earlier that day had been drowned in bouts of rain. And, although the sky lacked the dark clouds, looming ones threatened the possibility of turning Friday nights football game into a swampy situation.

Respect...

by Tory Duncan

I am sure some of you that read the Bull week in and week out wonder where some of my thoughts come from each week....”Where’s Duncan going to go this week?” Well, this week it is easy for me, as you will see a different perspective in Jeana’s column, “Ripped Jeans,” we both share our thoughts regarding the 2015 Southern Nebraska Conference Sportsmanship Summit, held Wednesday, Sept. 23, in McCool Junction. Sandy Creek principal Jason Searle, while standing at the 4-H Horse Show at the Clay County Fair, came up and asked if I would consider talking to the students and sponsors during the summit.

NPPD Urges Electrical Safety During Harvest Season

by Jenny Rees

Harvest season is one of the most satisfying times of the year on the farm. It’s the culmination of many long hours of effort in raising crops. However, the long grueling hours in the field can make workers weary and prone to forget safety precautions that can prevent serious or fatal electrical injuries. Nebraska Public Power District and its wholesale public power partners urge farm operators, family members, and employees to beware of overhead power lines, keep farm equipment safely away, and know what to do if accidental contact is made with power lines.

1991 Fillies to be Honored in Lincoln Sunday

Article Image Alt Text

Someone once told Sutton girls basketball head coach John Schoneberg: “Moments like winning a state championship will come at the least expected time,” he told reporter Daryl Blue of the Omaha World-Herald. “I never thought we’d be 26-0, especially with the two players who graduated from last year. I think this year showed what team work will do.”Schoneberg’s comments made back on March 2, 1991, came just moments after his Sutton Fillies held off a late rally from Crofton to earn the school’s first and only girls state basketball championship, with a 40-38 win over the Warriors.
