Mustangs place 7 on top of podium

Article Image Alt Text

BY JORDYN HULINSKY

The Sutton Mustangs took the runner-up title at the Superior Invite behind Smith Center, while placing seven champions, two runner-ups, a third place, two fourth places, and one eighth place in the individual weight classes.

“Our performance at Superior was very good with seven individual champions and nine finalists,” Head Coach Ron Gerber said. “It is exciting to see growth in wrestlers such as Dustin Stone, who has beaten two state medalist wrestlers in the last week, and Joe Hinrichs defeating a wrestler who entered the tournament undefeated.”

Rummaging through old boxes

By Ashley D. Swanson

My younger self was apparently wiser and more optimistic (and by younger self, I mean something like four to five years ago).

While rummaging through a box that had made its home in the basement of my previous house, I stumbled upon a notebook where I had written all of these inspirational quotes and optimistic excerpts, and just anything that suggests leading a happier life.

Hard to believe how time really flies

By Tory Duncan

With Mother Nature having a strong grip on much of the country this winter, whether it be brutally cold temperatures, sleet or snow, three weeks after the holiday season of 2017 and 2018, we find our local school basketball seasons at the midway point, with wrestling teams inching closer and closer to the post-season, with district action for the grapplers just a mere four weeks away, while post-season sub-district action for girls basketball teams looking at just over four weeks left until the sub-district seasons kick in.

It’s always amazing to me how fast days and weeks fly by each and every year. As it seems like just yesterday the school year began.

Dicamba online training sessions set

By Brandy VanDeWalle

There have been questions in the office regarding dicamba trainings so this week I’m sharing an article from the Nebraska Extension’s Pesticide Safety Education office. Online training for Nebraska applicators who plan to use new restricted use pesticide (RUP) dicamba products now is available through Nebraska Extension.

Nebraska applicators completing the new training may apply Monsanto’s XtendiMax, DuPont’s FeXapan and BASF’s Engenia on genetically modified Xtend soybeans. These herbicides kill broadleaf weeds but not Xtend soybeans. Since soybeans also are broadleaf plants, problems arise when traditional, or non-Xtend soybeans, have dicamba-related injuries.

Rich Knoell shares 30-year television career, highlights

Article Image Alt Text

BY TORY DUNCAN

Rich Knoell, a 1985 Sutton High School graduate, never once in his life, while in high school, thought that he’d ever be doing what he’s done for nearly 30 years—having a long career in television, mostly as a video journalist for KABC Channel 7 in Los Angeles.

“I’d have never dreamt that I’d be in the business I’m in while growing up. I was a quiet, keep-to-myself kid and I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to do,” said Knoell.
