Larry Miller

Larry Miller

Larry Miller 73, passed away on Sept. 18 in Victorville, CA. He was born in Geneva on Jan. 12, 1947. He attended Clay Center High School and immediately enlisted in the Air Force after graduating in 1965. Larry served in Vietnam where he met Lucy, his wife of 50 years. He retired in Victorville, CA after 25 years of selflessly serving his country.

Larry is survived by Lucy, daughter Kathleen, son Robert, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Harold and Ilene Miller. Larry’s kindness and deep love for his family will be greatly missed.

Larry’s viewing will be on Oct. 6, from 10-11 a.m. at Arlington Mortuary in Riverside, CA, with memorial services commencing immediately after. A graveside service will be performed at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Bernadine Hoins

Bernadine (Svoboda) Hoins died peacefully in South Jordan, UT on Sept. 12, 2020, at the age of 89. Bernadine was born on May 18, 1931 in Deweese at Spring Ranch.

She married the love of her life Marvin R. Hoins on May 29, 1952 in Deweese. Bernadine and Marvin had many adventures in life with Bernadine usually at the wheel. Bernadine was a devout Catholic who attended mass daily in her later years. To which the family jokingly called her “Saint Bernadine.” Nevertheless, to her family she truly was a Saint.

Bernadine is survived by her children Barbara (Jerry) Lehane, Michael (Karen), Brian (Laura), and Patrick (Christie); and sister Irene (Don) Tuchscherer. Fourteen grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin R. Hoins and parents Joseph and Elizabeth Svoboda.

It is with great sadness that the family of Morgan Jo (Krueger) Hanson (Mojo) of Juniata, announces her passing after a long battle with Angiosarcoma. Morgan’s last battle was fought on Sept. 22, 2020, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, surrounded by her family and friends.

Former Fairfield resident, Erma M. (Davis) (Trobough) Hoins, 92, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village in Hastings.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at the Fairfield Community Presbyterian Church in Fairfield with Pastors Ivan and Joyce Dean officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Sutton resident Virgil Ivan Johnson, 90, passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2020.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at Hope Reformed Church in Sutton, with Pastor Scott Henry officiating. Services will be live-streamed on the Hope Reformed Church Facebook page. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Harvard Cemetery in Harvard, with military honors by the American Legion Argonne Post #61, Sutton. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 1 p.m.–8 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m.–7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Virgil was born on Jan. 29, 1930, on a farm by Saronville, the son of Ivan and Esther (Trautman) Johnson.

Former Sutton resident, Darlene Marie Vauck, 91, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at the Providence Place in Hastings.

Memorial services were at 3:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, at the Federated Church in Sutton with Pastor Mary Scott and Mina Nutter officiating. Private family graveside services took place prior to the service. In honoring Darlene’s wishes there was no visitation or viewing.

Due to the COVID-19 Directed Health Measure Phase III, we are limited to 50 percent occupancy for the Funeral Service and we will be practicing social distancing as indicated by the measure. Per the family’s request, masks are encouraged to be worn at the funeral service.

Hastings resident, Robert “Bob” Frank, 99, passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at Azria Health Blue Hill, Blue Hill.

Services will be held at a later date. Private family burial will be at the Harvard Cemetery, Harvard. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020 from 4-7 p.m., at the Apfel Funeral Home Hastings. Wearing face mask is encouraged for the protection of those who are more vulnerable to illness. Apfel Funeral Home of Hastings is in care of the family. Grand Island, NE resident John R. Weston, 67, went to his heavenly home Monday, Aug. 31, 2020, at CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Rosary was prayed at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Michael Zimmer officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery in Sutton. Visitation was Monday, from 1 - 8 p.m., with the family present from 4 - 6 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton, or to St. Cecilia Catholic School in Hastings.

Salome Reichert

Sutton, NE resident Salome Reichert, 97, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at Sutton Memorial Chapel with the Free German Reformed Salem Church Elders officiating. Interment will follow at the Free German Reformed Salem Church Cemetery near Sutton. Both services were live-streamed on Sutton Memorial Chapel’s Facebook page. Visitation was Tuesday, From 3 - 8 p.m., with the family present from 3 - 5 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton. Pallbearers were Donald Nuss, Richard Reichert, Milton Ehly, Steve Schroetlin, Mike Schroetlin and Kevin Griess.

Due to the COVID-19 Directed Health Measure Phase III, we are limited to 50 percent occupancy (100 people) for the Funera Service. Those that wish could follow in the funeral procession to the interment. Social distancing was practiced, as indicated by the measure. Masks were mandatory for the services.

Alana Fox Moorhead

Alana Fox Moorhead

Alana Fox Moorhead was born Sept. 28, 1945, at Walla Walla, WA, to Harold and Phoebe Fox of Prescott, WA the younger sister of 3-year-old Sam.

The Foxes lived in Prescott until the spring of 1951, when they moved to Havre, MT. During that time Harold was baptized into Christ and decided to attend Bible college to pursue ministry. It was also, during those years that Alana began her life-long love affair with Bible camp.

In September 1953, they moved to Norfolk, NE where Harold attended Nebraska Christian College. On Sept. 25, 1955, Alana was baptized into Christ at the Park Avenue Christian Church.

In May of 1957, they moved to Ryegate, MT, to start a new church work. Alana attended junior high and high school there, graduating at the top of her high school class in 1963. She attended Christian Service Camp every summer at Little Rockies Christian Camp at Landusky, MT.
