Vera I. Shuck of Edgar, NE, the daughter of Will and Marie (Rabbe) Schlachter was born Aug. 2, 1922, at Glenvil, NE. She departed this life on Friday, April 17, 2015, at Hastings, NE, at the age of92 years. Vera grew up in the Glenvil/Edgar, NE, communities and graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1940. Vera was then united in marriage to Wendell “Tuffy” Shuck on July 8, 1940. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons. Wendell and Vera moved to San Pedro, CA, from 1940-1948. Wendell and Vera returned to the Edgar area and began a farming interest, as well as starting Shuck Well Drilling. The couple expanded their well drilling operation establishing a   usiness in Yuma, AZ, in 1980, which is operating yet today. era and Wendell resided in Yuma and Edgar until 2003, when they retired to the Edgar area, living in the Kirchoff house. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; parents and three siblings.

Twila Mae Mack, 86, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Parson’s House on Eagle Run in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday,April 23, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clay Center, NE, with Rev. Del Klover officiating. Interment will follow at the Clay Center Cemetery in Clay Center, NE. Visitation was Wednesday, April 22, 2015, from 1–8 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Clay Center,  NE. She enjoyed farm life there with three older siblings and graduated from high school in 1946.  he attended Hastings College and married Harlan Mack on June 20, 1947. They lived on a farm near Clay Center, NE, where they raised four daughters.

LUCILLE RIDGWAY

Lucille Ridgway passed away April 16, 2015, in Tucson, AZ, where she had lived since 2011. She was born July 7, 1930, in Fairfield, NE, to Ed and Leta Schliep. After graduating from Fairfield High School, Lucille attended Doane College in Crete,where she met Howard Hansen. The two were married in 1950, and resided in Fairfield and Hastings. She is survived by their children, Susan McCue and husband, Mark of Tucson; Bruce Hansen and wife, Lonna of Tulsa, OK; Sally Kellogg and husband, Mike of Boston, MA. Lucille later married Berl Ridgway and the couple lived in Hastings until his death in 1988. Lucille worked as a grade school teacher and later assisted her son in his sporting goods businesses in Arkansas, where she lived in Hot Springs Village for several years. Lucille enjoyed knitting, needlepointing, bridge, reading and tennis. She lived in the Riverside Lodge Retirement  Community of Grand Island, before moving to Tucson.

RICHARD L. LEWELLYN SR

Glenvil resident Richard Lee Lewellyn Sr., 65, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the VA Medical Center, Omaha, NE. There will be no services. Richard was born November 8, 1949, in Superior, NE, to Ralph Richard and  Mary (Persinger) Lewellyn. He graduated from Harvard High School and obtained his Associate’s Degree from Central Community College in Hastings. Richard married Nancy Runyan on Jan. 30, 1970, in Grand Island, NE; she preceded him in death on September 30, 2014. He worked as a welder for many years at different businesses until his retirement.

Anita Christine Lorenzen Spring (Kris) was born in 1935, to Herman and Lucia Lorenzen, in Lemon, South Dakota. She died of brain cancer on Good Friday, April 3, in Littleton, CO. Kris was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Werner. After the family moved to Sutton, Nebraska, Kris graduated from Sutton High School, attended college in Kearney, NE, for two years, and received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, CO. She married Don Spring in 1957, and they had a daughter, Keli. They later divorced and she went on to receive her Master's Degree in mathematics and taught high school math in the Denver area until she retired. However, after retiring from teaching, she worked three jobs at the same time including, Real Estate agent, H&R Block taxes and a bookkeeper for a familyowned plumbing shop for 19 years. Kris was very involved in the community and gave much of her time and money to many of her favorite charities.

Trumbull resident Kathleen M. “Kathy” Shafer, 68, died Friday, April 10, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, after a three year battle with ovarian cancer. Rosary was Tuesday, April 14, 7 p.m., at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, April 15, 10:30 a.m., at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph M. Walsh and Father Thomas Brouillette officiating. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery, Trumbull, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Book signing was Tuesday, April 14, 9 a.m- 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Sutton resident Charles “Chuck” Wesley Irwin, 68, passed away Sunday, March 29, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Graveside services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, April 18, at the Sutton Cemetery, with Pastor Bill Richards officiating. No visitation, as cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Condolences may be left at www.suttonmemorial.com Chuck was born December 17, 1946, in Sidney, NE, to Robert and Mildred (Witters) Irwin. He received his education in Sidney and graduated from Sidney High School. He drove his own truck for many years and was employed as a truck driver with George Brothers for the last two and a half years. On July 4, 2012, he married Carla Sterns in Sutton, NE. Chuck was a member of 4-H as a child and enjoyed playing cards, working outside and telling jokes. He was taken from us too soon and will be greatly missed.
