Rural Trumbull resident Arliss June McDowell, 88, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, at The Kensington Assisted Living, Hastings.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Trumbull Global Methodist Church, with Pastor Buck Linton-Hendrick officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull following the service. Visitation will be 1–8 p.m., with family present 5–7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Trumbull Community Foundation or Greenwood Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. James Reed Leypoldt died July 21, at his home in Lincoln, surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 16, 1957, in Omaha to Rev Woodrow and Dorothy (Hennings) Leypoldt. He was 65 years young.

He attended Albion High School and graduated from Watertown South Dakota High School in 1975. Jim attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and The Nebraska School of Commerce. He married Melissa Doupnik in Lincoln on July 20, 1984. Jim and his wife met while working at the Lincoln Regional Center. Jim found his passion working for Lincoln Public Schools: starting at Hawthorne elementary and later finding his home at Holmes Elementary as a para and proud Hedge Hog. He was also an avid Nebraska Husker fan and loved the game of golf. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Jim fought a courageous battle with cancer for fourteen years and taught others what was important and to “live life” to its fullest.

Glenvil resident Gary L. Krull, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.

Services were at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 22, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings, with Pastor Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Burial with military rites by Nebraska National Guard will be at Hanover Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery, Glenvil. Visitation were from 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 21, and one hour before the service at the funeral home. David Dean Dunker was born Feb. 25, 1958, at Hebron, to Frederick Dunker and Joan Rohr Dunker. He passed away on July 11, 2023, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 65 years, 4 months, and 16 days. He was the middle of three ornery boys.

Dave grew up in the Ohiowa/Strang area and graduated from Ohiowa High School with the class of 1976. He received his Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology from Central Community College. He started out his career as a machinist with Lichti Auto Supply in Geneva. After moving to Sutton in 1994, he worked in the parts department at Friesen Chevrolet and later was the maintenance man for the Sutton Community Home. He ended his career driving the shuttle van for Fillmore County Hospital. Since he couldn’t sit still, he also would do small engine repair out of his garage. He didn’t make much money with the repair business, but the friends he made in his customers was his real payment.

Funeral Services for Jarod Bromwich, age 37, of Stanton, formerly of Chambers, will be at 2 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, at the Assembly of God Church in O’Neill. Pastor Mike Durre will officiate. Burial will follow in the O’Neill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Jarod passed away Friday, July 7, 2023, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk as the result of a car accident. Memorials may be directed to his family for future designation. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.

Jerry’s final project was completed on July 7, 2023. It’s unfair, to sum up someone’s life in the limited space of an obituary, but he was a man of few words, so I will do the same.

Cheri Sue Head was born to Thomas Wayne Moore and Sila Sue (Rawson) Moore July 20, 1973, in Alma. She passed away July 5, 2023, at Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 49 years, 11 months, and 16 days. She bravely fought pancreatic cancer for over a year. She was one of two children born in the family.

Donitta (Schriner) Sheridan, 90, departed this life July 9, 2023, at Legacy Square in Henderson.

A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sutton. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Father Mark Seiker officiating. A luncheon will follow the services at the church hall. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., at the Calvary Cemetery in Sutton. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1 p.m –8 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m.–7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton.

Melvin Earl Smith Jr., 74, of Harvard, passed away Friday June 23, 2023, at Bryan Medical Center East Campus in Lincoln, with his family by his side.

Melvin was born April 6, 1949, to Melvin Earl Sr. and Ava (Woodward) Smith in Aurora. Melvin went to Harvard Public Schools in 1969. He was drafted to the United States Marines in 1969. Before leaving to serve his country he married Anna Jean Rollins on Sept. 12, 1969. To this marriage, three children were born: Christy, Marilyn, and Bruce. Melvin was employed with George Brother’s of Sutton for 50 years. While employed there he worked as a truck driver and his last several years there he was a mechanic working on their trucks. George Brother’s was considered his home away from home. Memorial services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 29, at the Harvard United Methodist Church in Harvard, with Pastor Dorothy Aspegren officiating.

Connie was born July 21, 1952, in Hastings to Don and Marlene (Esterling) Haseloh. After graduating from Harvard High School in 1970, she went to Lincoln General School of Nursing and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
