Harvard resident Bruce L. Smith, 44, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Mary Lanning Healthcare.

Memorial services were at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, at the United Church of Christ in Harvard, with Pastor Dave Johnson officiating. Burial was at the Harvard Cemetery in Harvard. Viewing was Tuesday from 5–8, with family present, at the United Church of Christ. Arrangements made by Murray Wilson Funeral Directing. Memorials may be given to the family. Bruce was born May 22, 1978, to Melvin E. Jr. and Anna Jean (Rollins) Smith in Aurora. He graduated from Harvard High School in 1996. Bruce married Brenda Johansen May 21, 2005. From this marriage, three children were born: Lillian, Alyssa, and Oliver. Bruce drove truck for several different companies throughout the years. He was also on the Harvard City Council. His biggest joy was helping his family and friends.

Marleen F. Powell, 82, of Grand Island, formerly of St. Libory, died Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Peters Funeral Home in St. Paul. Rev. Adam Snoberger will officiate. Private family burial will be that afternoon in the Edgar Cemetery in Edgar, with Rev. Ethan Feistner officiating.

Warren Edwin Harms passed away peacefully at the age of 101 May 2, 2023. Warren was born on a farm by Glenvil to George and Sophie Harms Nov. 28, 1921. He was a life-long farmer and retired from many years as a loan officer for Production Credit Association.

He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia (Kewpie) Onken, Aug. 12, 1942. They had six children and lived in Fairfield, Crete, Glenvil, Minden, and lastly back in Fairfield.

Warren made many life-long friendships and was known to all as “Hoss” because he was a cowboy at heart. Warren loved to sing and Virginia’s voice harmonized beautifully with his. They sang together on many occasions. He loved the Lord, his family, music, traveling, old farm equipment, and horses. Warren was strong in his faith and was active in the Lutheran Church and the Gideon Society. He was also a member of the Clay Center Lions Club for 40 years.
